YogaPalooza: How “Flow” Can You Go?

Vinyasa is a Sanskrit word that means “to place in a special way.”

Or, more simply … it means “to flow” from pose to pose with mindfulness.

While some Yoga traditions translate Vinyasa on the mat into a seriously sweaty form of exercise, that sort of misses the point.

Vinyasa uses breath and mindfulness and drishti (steady gaze) to connect the movement of the practice regardless of how sweaty and fast or how gently and slowly you move. The intensity of the practice is up to you.

And, although there’s nothing wrong with Sun Salutations, Vinyasa practice can be much more than Sun Salutations, too!

This week in YogaPaloozaVille, how “flow” can you go?

Monday, July 16 ~ Vinyasa: Rock

We start from our rock – Tadasana, Mountain.

Wait. What Was That?

YogaPalooza Starts This Week!

The 11th Annual YogaPalooza Session at Peaceful Hands begins today!

Hooray!

While you are welcome to join us at any time during the session, why not start with the kickoff week?

MONDAY, JULY 9 ~ Opening Night

We’ll open YogaPalooza tonight with an opening practice. Makes sense, right? Tonight’s Yoga will open shoulders, heart, hips, and sticky joints with familiar asanas (poses) and maybe we’ll toss in a sunny sun salutation (or two).

And, then …

5 Ways To Ensure 4th of July Awesomeness

Five things — from watermelon to bear cubs — to help ensure a safe and awesome Fourth of July …

One … It’s Hot Out — Stay Hydrated. Watermelon is 92 percent water and, as a bonus, includes nutrients, essential rehydration minerals, and electrolytes. Studies have found that watermelon is far more hydrating than just plain water. And, watermelon is yum (which you really can’t say about water). (Well, you could say that about water, but you probably wouldn’t mean it.)

So Very, Very Yum.

Interesting photos of your calendar and you out in the world — at your office, on the beach, in the garden, out for a walk with your dogs, on the mat! — are always welcomed. And, yes, you’ll win a prize if your photo is the super-duper awesomest!

Email your YogaPalooza-ish photos to jackie@peacefulhands.com

Ready … Set … It’s YogaPalooza 2018!

YogaPalooza 2018  – our 11th Annual Summer On The Mat – begins Monday, July 9 and is scheduled to run through Wednesday, August 29.

Every YogaPalooza class has a unique focus. Some are classic. Some are funky. Some sparkfully challenging. Some restfuliciously grounding.

Plus, two new guest instructors will bring their special Yoga spirits to two Saturday morning classes.

If you’ve never experienced YogaPalooza … it’s my time to share special classes, following classic and not-so-classic Yoga themes. All in the spirit of bringing balance and ease. A little irreverent, sure. Sometimes goofy. Always fun.

I’m excited to share this year’s YogaPalooza 2018 calendar with you …

Tonight’s Class, Save Your Knees, April Workshop, & Something About Penguins

Four things on this snowy Wednesday!

1) It really did snow!

Where did the spring flowers go?

While the snowing part is probably done, there’s no reason to venture out in the yuck for Yoga.  There will be NO classes tonight at Peaceful Hands – stay in, stay warm, and we’ll extend the session accordingly.

2) Knee issues?

Some folks have struggled with Table and other poses that put weight on their knees. I am pleased to offer a Yoga pad for knees that is working great for other people in our classes. It’s light, made of the same material as a Yoga mat, gives cushioning (under your knees, under your hips, under your head in savasana … ) and doesn’t get in the way of your practice.

Reviews from four Peaceful Hands students who are using it:

“After my meniscus surgery, my knee was very sensitive. The knee pad is wonderful and I am continuing to use it on my old knees. I highly recommend it for anyone who has pain from kneeling to do work or for enjoying Yoga. I truly believe without my pad, I would have suffered more discomfort and I would not have been able to enjoy my Yoga practice.”

“The knee mat is very comfortable & gives me the support I need. I was worried that it would get in my way of doing poses not involving the knee but it didn’t. Highly recommend it for anyone who has knee issues or just for more comfort.”

“I don’t know how I did without it.  …  It eases the pressure on my knee whenever we are in a kneeling asana. It can also be used under your head during savasana or under your feet when sitting cross-legged. I love it!!!”

“It’s great! I love it!”

If you’d like me to order one for you, just let me know. Your cost is my cost: $20, which includes shipping/tax, etc.
