From Jackie …

Maybe you’ve heard me talk about the limbs of Yoga in class.

The first two are the ones I’m thinking about right now …

The Yamas  — the ethics and morals of how we treat those around us.

The Niyamas – how we care for ourselves.

I think you know where I’m going here …

It breaks my heart, but it is, I believe, the right thing to do.

I am suspending my Yoga classes at Peaceful Hands as part of the effort to mitigate this fast-spreading COVID-19 virus.

Am I overreacting? Maybe. I sure hope so.

The Yamas of Yoga, the ethics of how we treat others, asks … no, it demands … that I care for you with love and compassion … with both wisdom and heart. And, that, for me means erring on the side of caution.

So, I’m going to use this website as our connection for now.  I’ll write again in the next day or so.  I’ll try to come up with a Plan B for helping give you some Yoga in the days ahead.

For now  …

I am cancelling Saturday’s class on March 14 and Monday’s class on March 16. (Probably, Wednesday’s too, but let’s just see where we are in a couple days.)

And, here’s what you can do for me.

Talk to me … You can comment at the bottom of this post, or reply via the email you received, or email me at jackie@peacefulhands.com  … Tell me your thoughts, suggestions, ideas. This is uncharted territory. We are a Peaceful Hands family … and I need your wise words to help guide us all.

You all know that Yoga can help keep an immune system strong. We all need to keep unrolling our mats.  Let me know how I can help with that.

Two additional things … If you’ve signed up and registered for the current session, we’ll just extend this session whenever we get back to it.  So, you’ll be set.

And, this just applies to my classes. if you are a student of Nancy’s or Annette’s, please contact them directly for their information and schedules.

Thank you for your understanding. We’re in this together. Today, when I unroll my mat, I’ll dedicate my practice to you … every single one of you. By name. Because, we are family.

And, don’t forget … squeeze your shoulder blades together!

Stay Strong.

Love, Jackie

  1. Good Morning Jackie,

I believe you have made the right call. As you said, until we better understand how this all works, it is better to err on the side of caution.
    Be well,
    Ted

    • I was thinking of yoga classes last night. Wonder if some kind of live broadcast is possible ? Or even recorded? There must be subscription sites for such things out there.

  2. HI, Jackie – tough call, but the right one.  No need to be going out and about right now, even in Madison and Orange Counties.   Who knows who has been where, and we do cough and sneeze.  Love you for all you do for us.  ~ Becky

  3. Sad to hear, but absolutely support the decision and appreciate the level of care and concern you have for our little community. Be well, see you soon.

  4. One of the benefits of being old enough to be lumped into a “risk category” is really coming to accept that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I appreciate the concern and caring that you demonstrate by choosing to suspend classes. I look forward to serenely returning to classes once we either know more about how to stay safe in public gatherings or the risk of contagion has abated.

  5. Oh. I will miss the Saturday class so much! I am glad you are looking out for ALL of us though. Thank you for that…

  6. Hello Jackie, we understand.
I was going to bring in a recipe for
    HAND SANITIZER
    2/3 cup rubbing alcohol
    1/3 cup aloe vera gel
    8 – 10 drops essential oil
Eucalyptus Lavender, Lemon, Rosemary, and Tea Tree oil
    Post if you want. Alda

  7. My acupuncturist said we could use witch hazel in place of alcohol If don’t like how alcohol dries out your skin
    Alda

  8. I love the idea of a pose of the day. It definitely gets my vote. Doing my practice to a video just won’t be the same as being in your class(!), but your decision to postpone practice is the right one. I can’t wait for all of this to blow over. P.S. I’m typing this with a straight back and an imaginary pencil between my shoulder blades. Thanks for the reminder!
