Some reminders for you, as this session begins its wind-down …

Saturday Yoga is tomorrow, October 12, at 9:30 a.m. at Peaceful Hands.

Give yourself a weekend treat and unroll your mat with us!

(Saturday Exclusive: I’m going to teach one of the sweetest, easiest, quickest, most effective grounding techniques there is … it works!)

Repeating A Reminder & Monday’s Historical Society Event

I think it’s kind of fitting that there are so many synonyms for the word repeat:

duplicate, redo, reduplicate, remake, renew, replicate, reprise, rerun, restate, refashion, recraft …

So, apologies for going over – once again – this repeat, duplicate, redone, reduplicated, remade, restated, replicated, reprised, and rerun announcement:

There will be no Yoga class at Peaceful Hands on Monday, September 30.

BUT … I invite you to join me at the Orange County Historical Society on Monday at 7:00 p.m. for my presentation:

160 Games: The Lost Ballplayers of Orange

There will be snacks, baseball, history, and me.

There will be no downward facing dogs and no savasanas. 😎

Even if you don’t like baseball (and you must let me change your mind about that sometime), this event is a deep dive into more than just baseball as we explore the lives of three big leaguers from the ‘teens and ‘twenties with unique stories and special ties to Orange County.

The event is free and open to the public. More info, including directions and parking info, is on my “Baseball Bloggess” website: here.

Join me. We’ll have fun.

And, wear your favorite team’s ball cap if you have one!

Yoga class resumes on Wednesday, October 2.

Fall Yoga Session Begins Sept 4!

There was a time when being “grounded” was the result of extremely poor teenage choices. Not a good thing.

You remember being grounded, right? (What, just me?)

Things sure change, don’t they?

Today, being grounded – being in the present moment – is one of the greatest gifts we give ourselves and, often, one of the most elusive.

Yoga tries to bring you back … to the present moment … to the here and now. To a place of peace, well-being, and possibilities.

Why not unroll your mat and see? Continue reading

Yoga Update, Wildlife Center News, & Thanksgiving Blessings Galore …

A few reminders from Peaceful Hands Yoga …

** There will be no Monday/Wednesday classes with Jackie at Peaceful Hands Yoga Thanksgiving week. Classes resume on Monday, November 26.

** Our upcoming Open House/Yoga Class benefit for the Wildlife Center of Virginia is more important than ever!

On Thursday, the Wildlife Center suffered significant damage from the severe ice storm that hit the East Coast. As of Sunday morning, they are still without power (and have no back up generator).

Some of the damage: Continue reading

Wildlife Center Bear Cubs Need Your Grocery Bags …

The Wildlife Center of Virginia needs a favor from their trusty helper-outers. (That’s us!)

bear

The Wildlife Center has admitted 22 bears this year, 15 of which are currently being cared for at the Center. Nearly all of these growing bears will be at the Center until spring 2019. That’s a lot of bears … and a lot of meals.

Each day the bears consume fruits, veggies, dog food, and other treats. Continue reading

Whoooo will be joining us? Some of the Wildlife Center’s special wild ambassadors, that’s who!

The Wildlife Center of Virginia depends entirely on the generosity of individuals like us to support their life-saving work. They have cared for more than 3,000 wild animals this year … and new patients come in every single day.

On November 15, a destructive ice storm hit Virginia. It did an enormous amount of damage to animal housing and habitat at the Wildlife Center of Virginia. Good news is that no animals or staff were injured, but there’s a lot of damage. So, our help is needed more than ever this year as they continue to care for their animals and rebuild from the storm.

I love this year-end video the Center posted last December.

They all need our help ~ Please be generous!

HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE
11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Enjoy hot apple cider and deeee-licious sweet and savory homemade treats. (Plus, yes! Dr. Beier’s famous homemade cheesecake will be there, too!)

Visit with The Wildlife Center’s Executive Vice President Randy Huwa, Asst. VP of Admin. Lacy Kegley, and Outreach Director Amanda Nicholson, who will be there to thank you for your support and to tell you about the wild patients your gifts help — from bear cubs to hummingbirds.

Take A Pic with a wild critter! Maybe a raptor, maybe a possum, maybe a turtle, maybe an owl. I can’t tell you which Wildlife Center “Wild Ambassadors” will be joining us, but I can tell you that they are looking forward to seeing you!

Bring A Friend. You don’t have to do Yoga to come by. And, please invite a friend — it’s a great way to introduce new folks to our Yoga studio and to the work of the Wildlife Center. I think of Peaceful Hands as a family and if you’re interested in helping the Wildlife Center, please join us … you’re definitely family!

Can’t Attend, But Want To Help? Make an online donation. Visit the Center at wildlifecenter.org and click the “Donate” button in the upper right corner. Click the option “make a general gift.” When you “check out” you’ll have the opportunity to include a note. Let them know that you’re supporting the “Peaceful Hands” project. If you do, you’ll receive a special little thank you surprise from me!

I hope you’ll stop by.

Thank you, as always, for your kindness and generosity.

Email any questions to me at jackie@peacefulhands.com.  And, directions are here: Directions to Studio.

5 Ways To Ensure 4th of July Awesomeness

Five things — from watermelon to bear cubs — to help ensure a safe and awesome Fourth of July …

One … It’s Hot Out — Stay Hydrated. Watermelon is 92 percent water and, as a bonus, includes nutrients, essential rehydration minerals, and electrolytes. Studies have found that watermelon is far more hydrating than just plain water. And, watermelon is yum (which you really can’t say about water). (Well, you could say that about water, but you probably wouldn’t mean it.)

So Very, Very Yum.

Peaceful Hands Yoga ~ New Location in Orange, VA

mats mats matsPeaceful Hands Yoga has moved!

We’re now located at 228 Warren Street, Orange, Virginia at the Sedwick Racquetball Courts.

A deep bow of thanks to those who came out yesterday to help move the studio and set it up again in its new home ~ Barb and Donnie and Dotty and Joe and Randy and Sandy and Susie.  While moving a Yoga studio is a pretty easy endeavor (very little heavy lifting), it still takes time and love to get things set up “just so.”

I will miss the little studio that served us well for the past two years.

one last lookOne last look. One last goodbye.

all packed upIf you think moving a Yoga studio is easy … yes, you’re right. Roll up the mats, pile up the pillows, and don’t forget to pack Shiva!

blocks are packedThe blocks are stacked. The mats are rolled. And, Buddha is down from his perch near the ceiling. Time to go …

mat cleaningOnce everything was moved to the new space, we cleaned up the loaner mats … and when we unrolled them all, we realized just how much more space we will now have!

And, after only a couple hours of moving and stacking and moving and unpacking, Peaceful Hands Yoga Studio is ready for you. The mats are ready. The room has been smudged with incense to bless it. And, all that’s left now …
